The “Green-Project” (GP) is a non-profit organisation, founded in 2008, by a voluntary initiative of active citizens, scientists and artists, inspired by UNESCO’s “World Solar Programme 1996-2005”.

GP has been awarded with the "First Award 2014" of the "International Photo Competition" of the "Energy Community", Vienna, Austria, the “First International Participation Award” of the “Festival de l’ Image Environnementale 2010” in Paris, France and the “Third Award for the Clean Development Mechanism” at the “United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 2010” in Cancun, Mexico.

GP conducts the “green photo journeys” which are being held under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, the Goulandris Natural History Museum, the Hellenic Ministry of Environment, Energy & Climate Change, the Hellenic Regulatory Authority for Energy, the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, the Region of Crete, the City of Athens and the Athens Tourism and Economic Development Co. It is symbolically supported by the European Parliament, Athens, the Europe Direct, the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, the SETE Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises and the Site-Greece.

GP presents the material produced in the “green photo journeys”, in art exhibitions, scientific conferences, film festivals and book publications.

GP has taken part in art festivals, i.e. the “Anniart, 798 Art Zone 2010” in Beijing, the “Festival de l’ Image Environnementale 2010” in Paris, the “Athens International Photo Festival 2008, 2009 & 2010”, and the “Lato International Art Festival 2009” in Crete.

GP has participated in scientific conferences, such as the “Athens Information Technology 4th Innovation Forum 2012”, the “Africa Green Investment Gateway Conference 2011” in London, and the “World Forum on Energy Regulation IV, 2009” in Athens.

A 240' film documentary about GP's work up to now, is in the post-production phase and the international publication of a 5,000 book copies is under way. 

GP has attracted global media attention in Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, Syria, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, France, Mexico and the UK.

The GP organisation is based in Athens and managed by a 5 member Board of Directors. President has been elected Dr. Ioannis (Yannis) N. Tzortzis, Attorney at Law at the Supreme Court to the Regulatory Authority for Energy and Member of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. Vice-President is Ms. Maria Pesli, Director, MSc Athens School of Visual Arts and General Secretary is Dr. Theodore Anagnostopoulos, Biologist-Researcher at Democritus Institute.

In the “GreenNet” are registered more than 300 active citizens, scientists and artists.

why

GP aims to raise social awareness through environmental photography.

Specifically, GP’s main tasks are: (i) to photo & video record on site “greenpoints of interest” in relation to best practices on the use of RES, and the utilisation of traditional indigenous knowledge (UNESCO World Heritage List), (ii) to promote the rational use of energy via “energy tourism”, (iii) to provide energy education and (iv) to become a civil society tool of intercultural communication highlighting the strong energy ties and common environmental concerns among the peoples visited.
